pedal hopper Denver, beer bike

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW LONG IS EACH TOUR?

Each tour is 2 hours long. Please call for any special event requests longer than 2 hours.

WHO DRIVES THE PEDAL HOPPER?

We provide a sober “pilot” who steers and brakes the thing, so you guys can relax and have fun!

CAN YOU DRINK ALCOHOL ON THE PEDAL HOPPER?

Legally, not yet. We are currently talking about this with Colorado officials at a state level, and will need their approval in order to allow open containers on board. Hopefully by next season people will be able to bring their own beer or wine on the Pedal Hopper. Even though drinking is not allowed yet, it is still a lot of fun!

HOW MANY PEOPLE RIDE/PEDAL?

The Pedal Hopper can carry up to 16 people. There are 5 seats with pedals on each side plus the 2 non-pedaling seats above the back wheels. There is a bench that seats 3 plus one “standee” spot in the middle for the bartender.

WHAT IS THE LEAST AMOUNT OF PEOPLE REQUIRED TO RIDE THE PEDAL HOPPER?

We would suggest at least 8 or more people to make it comfortable but don’t worry, we’ve never had a group that couldn’t get around due to pedaling difficulty.

WHAT ARE THE AVAILABLE ROUTES FOR THE PEDAL HOPPER?

We have 3 fantastic routes! Lodo, S. Broadway, and Uptown/Colfax. Please check out the route tab for details.

CAN THE PEDAL HOPPER GO UP HILLS?

Little ones. The PedalPub was invented in the Netherlands, where it is very flat. Routes with grades greater than 5-6% for any extended distance may require riders to get off and push. None of the hills on our regular routes have required pushing (thus far….)

CAN I MAKE MY OWN ROUTE FOR THE PEDAL HOPPER?

If it is within our travel path, yes. Our routes have been carefully mapped out taking into consideration streets that are not too steep, safe to travel down and under 30mph with lots of room for cars to get by us. We can go anywhere on the travel path we have marked on our route map.

WHERE DO WE START THE TOUR?

This depends which route you choose. Please check meeting spot details in your confirmation email. Just make sure to get the group there at least 20 minutes before departure time.

DOES THE PEDAL HOPPER SUPPLY FOOD AND DRINKS?

No. You guys bring whatever you plan on eating or drinking. There is plenty of space in the roof rack for 3 or 4 small coolers. We will have a trash can and towels if it gets a little messy!

HOW AND WHEN DO I PAY?

All bookings must be paid in advance. If you’d like to pay cash or or put a deposit down, please call us to reserve your spot, we will need to hold your credit card to be charged only if you don’t show up or cancel within 2 weeks of departure date. The majority of our bookings are done through our website with a credit card, our processing system is very secure. Feel free to call us and book over the phone as well.

WHAT IF I WANT TO CANCEL/RESCHEDULE?

If for some reason you really need to cancel (we can’t imagine why!), the renter has the choice of receiving a 50% refund or a rain check valid for 3 months, if the cancellation is 30 or more days prior to the outing date . Cancellations less than 30 days will receive a rain check valid for 3 months only.
Cancellations less than 14 days. Sorry! No refund or rain check.

WHAT ARE THE HOURS OF OPERATION?

10am to 11:00pm. We would go earlier upon request.

HOW FAST DOES THE PEDAL HOPPER GO?

On flat terrain about an average of 5-10 mph.

WHO SHOULD RENT THE PEDAL HOPPER?

Groups who like to pub crawl, fraternities, sorities, bachelor/bachelorette parties, tailgaters, parades- (we are an instant float!), singles mixers, company outings, AA meetings (you can drink coffee and smoke cigarettes on the Pedal Hopper.. Only smoking establishment in town!), picnics family reunions, whatever you can think of! We’ve even had an exercise class and a group of active seniors book us.

WHO SHOULD NOT RENT THE PEDAL HOPPER?

If you do not like the outdoors, or hate anything resembling exercise while you are having fun, or don’t want to be seen in a 16 person bike around town then it’s not for you. Keep in mind we have a 275 pound weight limit per seat.

WHAT IF IT’S COLD AND RAINY THE DAY OF THE TOUR?

The Pedal Hopper operates rain or shine. We live in Colorado, we can dress for the weather! It’s actually fun when it rains, groups have a blast. There is a roof on the Pedal Hopper so you won’t get too wet. If the weather is too severe, it is at our drivers discretion to call you a couple hours before the outing and cancel. You will receive a rain check good for 3 months. There will be no rain checks once the outing has begun.

WHAT IF OUR TOUR TAKES TOO LONG?

You will be charged a late fee if you do not return the Pedal Hopper to the starting point on time. The time it takes to complete a outing is up to the people pedaling. The driver does not have pedals.

DOES THE PEDAL HOPPER RUN ALL YEAR LONG?

Yes! We have discounted rates in the winter season (Nov-Feb)

WHO CAN RIDE?

You must be 21 or older to ride the Pedal Hopper.

WHAT’S UP WITH THE LIABILITY WAIVER AND OFFERING BIKE HELMETS?

Riding the Pedal Hopper can be a dangerous activity, just like riding any bike. You should have a reasonable expectation that you could possibly fall off and scrape your knee.
We offer bike helmets because it’s prudent. You don’t have to wear one—that’s totally up to you. We have you sign a liability waiver to accept responsibility just in case you bump your noggin’.

HAS THERE BEEN ANY PROBLEMS WITH PEOPLE FALLING OFF?

We have never had a problem or anything close to it. In the 10 years that Zwier and Henk have been running 19 Pedal Hoppers around Amsterdam, there was only one fairly significant injury. A woman tried to jump off while the Pedal Hopper was moving and broke her ankle.
A totally different attitude persists regarding personal responsibility in other parts of the world – if you do something stupid, it is your own fault. Her friends brought her to the hospital and she didn’t sue anyone.
